Promote Pittsburgh’s Neighborhoods and Diverse Local Heritage
Each of Pittsburgh’s neighborhoods offers its own history and legacy, culture, and sets of experiences. Of its over 90 neighborhoods, only about 10% are popular visitor destinations anchored by major sports arenas/stadiums, museums and cultural institutions, parks, and universities. In order to better integrate the City’s diverse neighborhoods with visitor experiences and to increase the visibility of unique attractions and businesses within each neighborhood, Pittsburgh will need to build on its existing ‘Neighborhoods’ content and package itineraries – particularly for neighborhoods that are adjacent to popular visitor destinations such as Strip District-Lawrenceville, Mount Washington-South Side Flats, and Shadyside-East Liberty. In particular, telling unique stories of each neighborhood will also be critical to igniting interest amongst visitors who are unfamiliar with the intricacies of the local neighborhoods and their histories.
